Lower Sharonlea
Action Group is the residents' association for the lower Sharonlea area, and incorporates
Lima, Chamfuti, Boabab, Nebelele, Beesvygie, Sterkbos, Wieke and Teak streets.
SAG's main objective is to provide a safe and secure living environment
to all residents, where residents are able to enjoy a peaceful, safe and prosperous
family life. This objective is achieved through various community projects. Activities
such as contemplated by SAG reduce the levels of crime in an area significantly.
In the absence of pro-active management, crime will spill over from well-managed
neighborhoods into our own. Community members are still encouraged to remain vigilant,
despite the actions taken by SAG. Aside from the increased security situation
in the area, other indirect benefits to residence may include:
| |
Increased
property value, due to the perceived reduced security risk to prospective property
buyers.
| | |
A stronger sense of community.
| | |
A unified effort to increase the quality of living in the area in general.
|
MEMBERSHIP.
SAG is a voluntary association open to all residents and property owners
of the area. Members may join and resign at free will. Residents are encouraged
to become members of SAG. Membership of SAG is at a fixed monthly cost,
determined and revised by the Committee from time to time in accordance with the
requirements of the Community. Members' personal details are considered
to be confidential. No personal information of any member or resident may be given
to an outside party without the express permission of the member. MANAGEMENT. SAG's
activities are managed by the SAG Committee. Committee Members are duly elected
volunteers from the community. Members are nominated annually during a normally
constituted monthly community meeting, and are elected by popular vote. A Chairman
is nominated and elected by the Committee annually during a normal SAG Committee
meeting, by popular vote. Additional members may be co-opted by the Committee. The
SAG Committee Members act on behalf of the community, and therefore always endeavor
to act in the best interest of the community. Major projects, actions and/or decisions
are mandated to the SAG Committee by the community during the normally constituted
community meetings. The Members of the Committee also function as Street
Leaders for their allocated streets, in which (in most cases) they reside. Residents
are able to contact Street Leaders at any time to express concerns, views and
opinions.
FUNDS MANAGEMENT. The
various projects that SAG undertakes require significant funding. SAG generates
funds from three main sources: |
Fixed
monthly contributions from residents
It is crucial that the overriding
majority, if not all, residents contribute to SAG, to ensure adequate funds are
available to service the monthly payment obligations (such as the guarding service
etc). Everyone in the community gains, and it should therefore be reasonable to
expect that everyone should contribute. Street Leaders will continue to canvass
non-participating residents. Participating members are encouraged to do the same. |
|
Fund
raising events
With the initiative of the community, SAG will arrange
ad hoc fund raising events to supplement funds and to speed up the delivery of
project priorities. | |
Sponsorships
SAG
will approach various businesses serving the community to request sponsorship,
as an investment by business back into the community from which they profit. This
again will supplement income to fund projects. | Funds
are retained in a SAG Standard Bank Account. Expenses in lieu of normal monthly
expenses, special projects and other sundry expenses are paid via cheque or bank
transfer with authorization of at least two signatories to the bank account. The
bank account is reconciled monthly by a SAG appointed Treasurer, who is not a
signatory to the bank account. Prudent accounting procedures are applied in the
management of the account and funds. Accounts are reported to the community
during normally constituted community meetings. Accounts are available for inspection
by any member of SAG on request or on this website. Access is however limited
to paying Residents only. REPORT
BACK TO COMMUNITY SAG holds regularly scheduled community meetings (quarterly),
during which the Committee communicates with the community and visa versa. Residents
are encouraged to attend these meetings, as inputs from the community are crucial
to ensure that SAG continues to act in the best interests of the community. In
addition, SAG endeavors to communicate ad hoc news and events via electronic messaging
such as e-mail and SMS. |
